Whirlpool Children?۪s Park used as a PCB filled Dumping Ground Several members of the families of children who have died or been stricken with cancer in what has become known as the ???Clyde Children?۪s Cancer Cluster? are devastated to learn the results of a United States Environmental Protection Agency report that was recently released. The report discloses that Whirlpool Park, built for children in the Clyde area to play, is also a dumping ground full of PCBs and Toxic Metals filled sludge. The sludge is described in the EPA Report to be over nine feet in depth in places. The families are equally outraged to learn that the fact that the Whirlpool Park was used as a dumping site was not disclosed by Whirlpool itself, but rather was discovered once the US EPA set up a confidential hotline where people could call and inform the EPA of toxic dumping…

Clyde Cancer Cluster: Lime Sludge Testing at Water Treatment Plant to Commence This Spring
Alan Mortensen of Dewsnup, King & Olsen, one of the attorneys who represents families from the Clyde area who've lost children to cancer, is helping the families to test the water quality of the small community in which they live. Attorney Mortensen sent a letter to the mayor of Clyde regarding testing the lime that is removed annually from the water treatment plant. The letter requests that his "environmental team of experts be allowed to take a sample of the sludge to do detailed testing and determine whether the sludge holds any clues as to what is causing this horrible disease to Clyde's children." There are three lime sludge pits behind the water treatment plant and lime build up can be seen. The testing will detect any possible carcinogens in what the lime filters out of the water systems.

The News-Messenger Reports: Clyde Working on Dump Issues
Whirlpool Corp. and the current owners of the closed Whirlpool Park near Green Springs, Ohio, have reached a verbal agreement that will allow Whirlpool to have further testing done on the land. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency found toxic sludge near the basketball courts of the former park, where many families affected by the local cancer cluster frequented. The Eastern Sandusky County Cancer Cluster has affected at least 35 children from Clyde, Green Creek Township and Fremont. Although Whirlpool Park has been the focus in recent weeks pertaining to the Cancer Cluster, attorneys for the families, Alan Mortensen and Dustin Lance of Dewsnup, King & Olsen, are also concerned about other sites investigated by the EPA. Alan Mortensen, who is a Gibsonburg native, said the former Clyde City Dump and the vacant Clyde Paint and Supply sites are also places of concern. He also thinks the EPA should investigate a…

Alan Mortensen and Dustin Lance of Dewsnup, King & Olsen in Salt Lake City along with the Clyde families of children who have suffered from cancer react to the EPA report indicating high PCB levels were recently tested at a former Whirlpool playground. The report indicates that the former playground is a virtual "toxic dump" states Alan Mortensen. He said the area where the PCB levels were found "slopes down into the pond, and the pond is what they used to fill the [swimming] pool every year so they would pump the warer out of the pond into the pool. That's big concern to the family members". click here to read the entire article.
